Oxford, England, 26. Juni. - Mark Twain erhielt heute im „Sheldonian Theater,“ in Gegenwart von etwa 30 distinguieren Männern, einschließlich des Premiers Campbell-Bannerman, des Lordkanzlers Loreburn, des Sprechers des Unterhauses Hrn. Lowther, des Heilsarmee-Generals Booth und des Schriftstellers Rudyard Kipling den ihm von der Universität Oxford verliehenen Doktortitel. Dem amerikanischen Botschafter Reid wurde gleichzeitig der Titel eines Doktors der Civilrechte übertragen.
