August Siemering (1830–1883) was a writer, editor, judge, political leader, and publisher of the San Antonio Freie Presse für Texas. Born and educated in Germany, Siemering emigrated to the USA in 1851 where, together with other supporters of the failed revolution of 1848, he pursued his liberal ideals as an ardent Republican and an abolitionist. In 1865, he founded the German-language newspaper Freie Presse für Texas which developed into one of the most influential newspapers in the region. He frequently wrote editorials for the paper and was the author of the popular column "Sonntagsbetrachtungen." He was also a regular correspondent contributing belletristic and historical essays to the New Yorker Staats-Zeitung and the St. Louis paper Anzeiger des Westens.
