<td>New-York, 4. Juli. - Gerüchte, dass Hr. Samuel L. Clemens (Mark Twain) mit seine Sekretärin, Frl. I. V. Lyon, verlobt seien, cirkulirten in den letzten Tagen in Literatenkreisen. Die angebliche Braut befindet sich mit der Tochter des Schriftstellers auf der Reise und war bei dem Unfall der „Rosalinde“ zugegen. Sie sagte gestern Abend, dass an der ganzen Sache nicht ein einziges wahres Wort sei. Sie bleibt mit ihrer Freundin, der Tochter Mark Twain's, einige Tage in Halifax und Beide kehren dann nach New-York zurück. Der Humorist, welcher heute im 71. Lebensjahre steht, ist zur Zeit in England Gegenstand großer Ehrungen. Er kehrt in 14 Tagen nach hier zurück, jedenfalls wird er sich wundern, dass er hier verlobt wurde, ohne dabei zu sein.</td>

The alleged bride is traveling with the writer's daughter and was present at the accident of the “Rosalinde”. She said last night that there was not a single word of truth in the whole affair. She is staying in Halifax with Mark Twain's daughter for a few days, and they are both returning to New York afterwards. The humorist, who is now 71 years old, is currently the subject of great honors in England. He will return in a fortnight; at any rate he will be surprised that he was engaged here without being present himself.</td>
