<td>Seit dem Tode der Gattin des bekannten Humoristen Mark Twain sind mancherlei Anekdoten über die Zeit ihres ersten Ehelebens an die Oeffentlichkeit gekommen. Als das junge Paar von der Hochzeitsreise heimkehrte, fand es ein völlig möblirtes Haus seiner wartend vor, ein Geschenk von Herrn Langdon, dem Vater der jungen Frau. Mark Twain war eine Zeit lang außer Stande, seine Dankbarkeit in Worte zu kleiden. Endlich ergriff er die Hand seines Schwiegervaters und lud ihn ein, wenn immer er in der Stadt sei, auf Besuch zu kommen und es sich bequem zu machen, „wie wenn es sein eigenes Haus wäre.“</td>

When the young couple returned home from their honeymoon, they found a fully furnished house waiting for them, a gift from Mr. Langdon, the young wife's father. Mark Twain was for some time unable to express his gratitude in words. At last he grasped his father-in-law's hand and invited him, whenever he was in town, to come and visit and make himself comfortable “as if it were his own house.”</td>
