<td>Mark Twain erzählt folgende erquickende Geschichte: „James Grover wußte nichts Besseres zu tun, als mit Kate Grillway zu flirten. Ihr Vater, ein Mann von wenig Worten, packte James Grover am Kragen, gab ihm einen prächtigen Fußtritt, und James Grover flog hinaus, daß es eine Pracht war. Zwei Tage später - so lange brauchte es, bis Grover wieder mobil war - ging dieser abermals in Mr. Grillway's Haus. ‚Was,‘ rief dieser, ‚schon wieder!‘; und er machte sich bereit, Mr Grover auf dieselbe Art zu expediren. Dieser aber schrie: ‚Nein, nein, mein Wort darauf, ich habe nicht die geringste Lust mehr nach ihrer [sic] Tochter. Ich wollte Sie nur schnell fragen, ob Sie nach der glänzenden Probe nicht Mitglied unseres Fußball-Clubs werden wollen, wir brauchen Spieler von solcher Force!‘“</td>

Her father, a man of few words, grabbed James Grover by the collar, gave him a magnificent kick, and James Grover flew out that it was a splendor. Two days later - that's how long it took Grover to get mobile again - he again went to Mr. Grillway's house. ‘What,’ cried the latter, ‘again!’; and he prepared to dispatch Mr. Grover in the same manner. But he cried out, ‘No, no, my word on it, I have not the slightest desire for your daughter any more. I only wanted to ask you if you would like to become a member of our soccer club after your brilliant trial; we need players of such strength!’”</td>
